Trumpets and Hummers

Trumpets and Hummers  oil on linen   14x24

I love birds and have been wanting to put one in my still life for a long time.  I just never seemed to do it.  Today I did!  Hummingbirds are the sweetest little things, but they are territorial and can be quite aggressive.  Spunky little critters.  :)

I had so much fun painting this painting.  I hope you enjoy it!

Red Roses with Purple Statice

Red Roses with Purple Statice  17x17 oc

This was an exercise in textures.  Lots of fun!  I started with a very textured underpainting and then working with palette knife I layered and scraped and scumbled the paint around the canvas.  It was loose and playful..no expectations.  I like it.  It feels like energy to me.

Thanks for looking in! Hope you enjoy it.

Angel Valentine

Angel Valentine

16x42 oc

It's late for Valentine's Day but the red roses and the little angel made me think of symbols of love so the title seemed appropriate.

I've been working more abstractly in my background areas, bringing the eye of the viewer through the painting using detail and sharp edges.  I love working this way and will continue to practice until I get it where I want it.

I hope you enjoy my belated Valentine's gift!

Thank you for watching my painting progress!

Grape Ivy and Roses

Grape Ivy and Roses

oc 14x23

The gray days of Michigan winter drag on....I'm not a "winter hater", but I do get so tired of gray.  I picked up these flowers, trimmed some vine off my grape ivy plant and brought some life to my day!  I hope it brings some life to your day as well.
